We awoke to read a few emails with good news. Two of the companies where we had to make excursion changes got back to us and told us we were confirmed for the revised itinerary dates. One of those was H20 Bora Bora - hooray! We will get to snorkel with David in Bora Bora - and with any luck, spot manta rays again! We have an excursion booked with a company in Moorea (where we previously were visiting Nov 5 and 6th) and we are trying to change the booking to November 4th. That is causing some grief because there are about 50 Cruise Critic members who will all be trying to make these modifications too.
We listened to a lecture delivered by Kainoa on the MainStage this morning, entitled, “Kingdom to State”. Kainoa gave a very informative lecture about Hawaii as a monarchy, then in 1900 it became a Territory, and it finally became the 50th State of the USA in August of 1959. While Hawaii has settled into life as part of America, at the time it was a very sad situation for them. I hadn’t realized Hawaii wasn’t a state when the attack on Pearl Harbour occured in 1941.
After lunch, J played bridge and I again listened to the Quartet at Lincoln Center Stage. On piano, Timur Enikeev is from Germany, on the Violin Lukasz Strzelczyk is from Poland, on viola Adam Kramer is from New York City and on cello is Seulki Lee is from Korea. They are outstanding musicians individually and as an ensemble. J and I returned to hear them play “Made in New York” pieces after we ate supper.
This is the fourth of five days at sea. On Sunday we will have our first port stop in Hawaii, and then we will have 6 port days in a row! So more interesting stories are to come!
