Day 4 At Sea

We again awoke early – J at 4:30 am and me a bit later.  We were in the Seven Seas Dining Room shortly after 7 am for breakfast.  We again were seated next to a couple of young fellows who recently moved from the USA to Taipei so we enjoyed conversing with them.  This morning I had a half a grapefruit that was just delicious.  We both had a scrambled and avocado burrito that was really tasty and just the right size.

We headed straight to deck six to walk the promenade – but we quickly learned the roughness of the seas sent us weaving down the deck having a hard time walking straight.  We also found they had closed off the front of the ship – so water was likely splashing on the deck making it unsafe to walk or run.

I stopped by Guest services again to inquire about changing our room to one somewhere remotely near a staircase we can use.  Again, we were told the ship is full (after all the passengers boarded in Hong Kong who missed embarking in Taipei).  When I inquired about the possibility of switching our room next cruise, they said there might be hope after all guests have loaded embark in Singapore.  It is hard to figure out what to wear when you cannot learn the air temperature anywhere on the ship and rely on stepping outside to get a sense of the day.  If a person is staying in a verandah, this is not a problem, but of course we have chosen an ocean view stateroom as we usually do.  I should time the walk to get to the first fresh air door – but I know it is more than a minute to get outside to learn that information.

The good news is – we are getting into warmer weather.  Today’s high is expected to be 23 C.  So I eventually put on a pair of capris with a sleevless top under a sweater.

We did go to the fitness center to ride the bike for exercise.  J of course pedalled longer and harder than I did.

When I left the fitness centre I decided to walk beside the pool to get some fresh air and enjoy the sun and found our Canadian friends, Wes and Lisa.  They had a deck chair available so I sat down and we all had a visit.  J ended up finishing his bike ride and joined in on the conversation.

We had lunch in the Seven Seas dining room again – and had a back table.  I ordered a hot chocolate and they brought it to me in a teapot.  It was delicious!  I encouraged J to ask for a teacup so he could enjoy it too – which he did.

After lunch we happened to exit the dining room near the Stardust Theatre and stumbled across the line set up for Mandatory Thermal Screening to prepare for entry into the Philippines tomorrow.  We knew we would be called down by muster station groups to participate in this exercise between 1 and 2:30 pm.  At the time we were there, they had it all set up and were inviting anybody to walk through and so we did!  We walked past a camera – that must have read our body temperature – and walked out of the theatre on the opposite side where they scanned our cruise card.  That was convenient.

Back at the room, we read, napped and I wrote my blog.  At 3 pm we joined our friends Wes and Lisa in the library for a game of Qwirkle!  We decided we might be too loud for the setting so we moved upstairs to the 11th floor to play a couple games of it.  We enjoyed the conversation and laughter playing for a few hours.

For supper we both had potstickers as an appetizer.  J had lemon pepper shrimp with orzo.  I had shrimp fettucini alfredo and everything was delicious!

Tomorrow, we plan to take local transportation to go snorkelling in Coron, Phillipines.  It should be fun!
