Day 7 Lake Natron Afternoon

So I was happy to spend time on our big beautiful deck facing Lake Natron and viewing the many wild birds this afternoon. I pulled out the yoga mat outside on the deck and did some stretching to ease tight muscles, but there was another option here in Lake Natron fornthose tight muscles! You could have a one hour Maasai massage!!  Four people from our tour enjoyed those massages and they all raved about it!  $30 US seemed like a steal!

When I had my phone turned off on airplane mode I missed Neil’s WhatsApp group notification that zebras were walking in the midst of our tents!  I didn’t see them there but I did see them afar!

At 6 PM we were invited to attend a “sundowner” where our group was invited to sit on chairs on a small knoll near the beach to watch the sunset over the ridge. We were provided with cold drinks and specially made iced tea - because so many on our group are tea drinkers!  Cold tea was very much appreciated instead of hot tea!  (As I type this in our lovely room, at 10 pm at night sweat is still dripping down my back!).  We watched the sunset but in actuality we got so engaged with conversation and picture taking, I might have missed the actual sunset!  Trudy got some great photos of a line of flamingoes in flight over the water!

The group enjoying our sundowner!

We then walked through the dry lakebed area that will be covered in water in one month’s time, as we headed get to the dinner lounge tent to eat our meal.

Zebra footprints next to my shoe.

The portion sizes at dinner were just perfect; last night they were really large so we requested they be reduced. I should mention at lunch they served us pistachio ice cream that was really delicious, and very much appreciated because of the heat. The food has been really tasty here at Lake Natron.

After dinner walked us back to our room - not because there are any wild animals around - but because it is pitch black and we use little solar lanterns to make our way that is probably a 5 minute walk to our tents.

A greater flamingo in the foreground with lesser flamingoes in the background!

Tomorrow will be another transit day so another adventure awaits!
