This morning we had direct access from the Haida Gwaii Glamping to a long beach so we went for a long walk on the beach. Of course J likes to collect rocks and I picked up a shell!
Some creative placement of driftwood to recreate a Sasquatch!
One of the other perks of staying here for me was the fact that they had ingredients and blenders to have smoothies for breakfast, (along with homemade muffins and cold cereal)! Had we known there was so much to explore right from these accommodations, we could have easily enjoyed two nights staying here.
Checkout time was 11 AM, so we departed and drove south towards Skidegate.
A cool erratic on the beach!
We stopped at a couple of viewpoints, learned there was a marathon race being run on the highway and I grabbed lunch at Coop before arriving at our ultimate destination, the Haida Heritage Centre. This is the museum for all things Haida. It was in a glorious setting and we spent 3 hours in the museum.
We headed to Skidegate, Graham Island to catch the ferry to Alliford Bay, Moresby Island. This is a quick 20 minute ferry that allows one to cross over to the southern island of Haida Gwaii. This is the last asphalt road before the trip to Moresby Camp, the zodiac ride that allow groups to go kayaking to get deep into Gwaay Hannas. We are here just for a one day zodiac ride around Louise Island, tomorrow, just north of the park. I was concerned about getting seasick in a kayak - as that was my experience when we paddled in Prince Edward Island about 30 years ago, so J booked this one day trip to see how I would fair!
We arrived at Seaport B & B, a guest house with 8 rooms. We have met some lovely people, all finishing up or beginning kayak trips from this point. We enjoyed homemade cookies when we arrived, then prepared a simple supper with Indian boil in a bag dishes to go with some rice.
Another walk on this beach, a bath and writing this blog, then we will retire for the night!
The view from our front porch as I type my blog and J is walking past a baleen whale jaw bone integrated into the fence!
