Cycling Day 3

So by rights, the title of this blog should be Cycling Day 1 - because this was our first real day of cycling.    We left Mission, BC and cycled to Hope, BC on Highway #7.  It was glorious!  We had sunshine, lovely shoulders to cycle on a bit of a tail wind in the last 20 kilometres.

My poor little battery worked up a storm.  By the time we were entering our final climb of the day I had less than 20% battery life left.  I was worried I would run out and not make the final climb, but it turned out we had less elevation than we thought and so I made it to our little motel.

We cycled 87 km today and expected to have over 800 metres but it turns out it was around 500 m according to J’s Garmin.  That may or may not have transpired, but we will go with that!

Here is a photo of us leaving the Best Western in Mission BC.

This was some wonderful scenery we experienced just east of Mission.  I asked J to stop so that I could take the picture.  He thought I wanted to stop because of the cherry tree!

We had a feast!  J could reach high and picked about 8 handfuls of cherries for us to eat!

We stopped in the town of Agassiz to eat lunch (Subway rice bowls for Jessica and I and a sandwich for J).

The Agassiz Train Museum was our lovely spot to eat lunch!

Jessica kindly took a photo of me on her favourite stretch of highway.

J was brave enough take some pictures of amazing photos from bridge decks, but I was too afraid to stop!We met Jeff at our little motel about 2 pm (so about 4 hours of bums in seats cycling).  He happily found some birding spots along the way and was on standby to collect us should we have any issues.  My first issue was forgetting my phone in the car - so he dutifully delivered it to the Subway station 15 minutes after he waved goodbye to us!!

Dinner at a Korean Restaurant filled us up.  We finished the evening with a game of Frustration to give J the hat trick for wins - though Jeff put up a strong challenge tonight!

By 9 pm we felt it wasn’t too early to head to bed!

We hope to beat the rain forecast to begin at 11 AM tomorrow when we start to cycle!
