Today we started on our Best of Canada cycling trip that includes Western Canada - specifically British Columbia and Alberta. This trip has my husband J, his sister, Jessica and his brother, Jeff and me all travelling together. We did a similar trip two years ago where we cycled in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick. J, Jessica and I cycled and Jeff was our support driver. That is the same set up this year. We planned the trip in June (instead of September) hoping to avoid wildfire smoke.
So we are spending two days driving from our home city to Mission, BC (just east of Vancouver). Today was primarily a driving day but cycled from Banff to Castle Junction on Highway 1A which is closed to vehicular traffic. It was a fabulous ride through the mountains for about 90 minutes (and I spotted two black bears!!)
We then enjoyed the drive through the mountains and arrived at our rest stop for tonight, Sicamous, B.C. We of course had to visit Dutchmen Dairy to have an ice cream! It is all GF, which is important for Jessica and Jeff.
Sicamous has a population of just 2,400 people but it is a tourist town on the Shuswap Lakes. We found a great restaurant on the water called Moose Mulligans.
Back at the hotel Jessica and I enjoyed a swim and a hot tub. We had both amenities to ourselves!
