Day 21 Disembarkation

Today we requested the A1 disembarkation category to allow us to be the first to walk off the ship - expected to be about 7:30 am. Somehow I was under the mistaken illusion that we would walk off the ship from our room straight out the door on deck 5 midship to get off the ship. When we left our room about 7:06 am, and walked 20 metres through one part of the art gallery we hit a winding circuitous line of other passengers all looking to disembark at that time too!  Boy was I mistaken!!

As I wound my way through the crowd to get to the end of the line, a friendly voice said "Hello L!"  And it turned out to be a friend from high school!  She had been on this cruise the last 10 days and we never crossed paths until the moment I was disembarking!!

We exited the ship eventually but found the slowdown to be inside the terminal. Somebody had fallen down the escalator so they were insisting people take the elevator down to the main floor. Eventually they started allowing people with only one piece of luggage to take the escalator. My carry on is on wheels too - so we had to wait for the elevator. Once through that process, there was absolutely no line up for immigration. We were immediately at the front of the line where they take your picture. If you get a green light you go!  So J and I walked for a taxi. 

The taxi proved to be a quick 15 minute drive. We were through security by 8:30 am - three hours before our flight was scheduled. 

It turns out we were plenty early for our flight - as it got delayed due to weather in Atlanta. Then we sat on the tarmac for two hours and missed our connection back to Canada. 

Just before we took off I could see on the WestJet app we were rescheduled to get home tomorrow morning at 8 am. So at least we had a plan now. We landed in Atlanta and looked for a hotel near the airport with a shuttle service!!

We had a great dinner across the street and are heading to bed so we can catch our early morning flight!!
